Plan Your Week
This guide shows you how to put dates and sequence on work for the week. At the end you have deadlines on the calendar, and a plan that shows what is workable now.
Prerequisites
- You have projects and deliverables. See Set Up a Project.
- You know that a deadline owns its date. See Core Ideas.
- You can switch workspace. Deadlines also have a personal view across organisations. See About Workspaces.
Put dates on work
A project, a deliverable, a subsection, a task, and a plan step do not own a due date. A deadline owns the date. You attach the deadline to the record.
Create a deadline. Give it a date. Attach it to the work it is for. You can attach one deadline to several records. The deadline settles when every attached record is complete.
You can also create a deadline with no attachment. That deadline is a dated note. You settle it yourself.
A deadline can require another deadline. The later one waits on the earlier one. A child in that chain must land before its parent. The root is the final event.
You can assign people to a deadline. Those people can get a notification. You also get a notification for deadlines due today or tomorrow, if that category is on.
Read the week on the calendar
Open the calendar for the active workspace. Open deadlines appear as items on their dates. Settled deadlines leave the calendar.
Open a calendar item to go to the personal deadline canvas.
You can add day labels on the calendar. A day label is a banner across one or more days. It is presentation only. It does not attach to a project or a task.
Use month view for the whole span. Use week view for the days in front of you.
Sequence the week on a plan
Open plans for the workspace. Create a plan. Give it a title.
Add steps. Link a step to a deliverable, a subsection, a task, or another plan when the step is that record. A linked step follows the record. An unlinked step is a note. You mark that note done yourself.
Connect steps so each step names what it comes after. Two steps that wait on the same step can run together. One step that waits on two steps is a join.
The plan derives a frontier. Done steps are behind you. Current steps are workable now. Future steps still wait.
You can attach a deadline to a plan step. The date then shows on that step.
Read across organisations
Open the personal deadline view when your week spans more than one organisation. Every deadline from every organisation you belong to sits on that canvas. Filter to your assignments if you only want the dates that name you.
Activity stays on the workspace you have open. Switch workspace to see that organisation's feed.
