Use NUU Command

This guide shows you how to use NUU Command. NUU Command is a one-line bar in NUU Account. You type one sentence. It makes a task in NUU Operations, or it sparks an idea in NUU Current, in the right organisation and the right place. At the end you can capture work without opening Operations.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in with your NUU account.
  • You belong to at least one organisation, or you use your personal workspace. See About Workspaces.

Open NUU Command

Open NUU Account. Then do one of these:

  • Press Cmd+J on macOS, or Ctrl+J on other systems, on any page of NUU Account.
  • Choose Command in the header.
  • Go to the Command page, /command.

The bar has one line. Type in it. Press Esc to close it.

Choose the organisation

The bar starts with an organisation: the last one that you used, else your first team organisation, else your personal workspace. The org chip of the bar shows it, for example @Acme.

To change it, type @ and the start of an organisation name, for example @ac. The bar lists the organisations that match. Choose one with the arrow keys and Enter, or type the full name. Type @personal for your personal workspace.

When you choose an organisation, NUU Command loads its places in the background: its projects, deliverables, sections, and deployments. It keeps a copy in the browser. So the suggestions are ready when you type the rest.

Type the sentence

Type what you want, the way you would say it. For example:

  • create a task to fix the checkout total on mobile
  • remind me to renew the domain
  • spark an idea: a weekly digest of the inbox

Words such as "create a task to", "task:", and "remind me to" ask for a task. Words such as "spark an idea", "idea:", and "spark" ask for an idea. The bar takes these words out of the title.

With no such words, NUU Command decides the action from the sentence. To choose it yourself, click the action chip, or press Alt+T for a task and Alt+I for an idea.

You can name the place at the end, for example fix the login in Website. When a place matches, the bar takes the name out of the title.

Read the preview

Before you press Enter, the bar shows what it will do.

For a task, the preview shows Task, then the organisation and the path of the place, for example Acme › Website / Spring launch / Checkout. The place can be a section, a deliverable, a project (its backlog), or a deployment (its inbox).

For an idea, the preview shows Spark, then NUU Current.

Each preview shows the confidence as a percentage and a word:

WordMeaning
sure75% or more
likely45% to 74%
a guessLess than 45%

When you choose the place or the action yourself, the preview says "your choice".

For a task, the preview also lists other places, each with the reason for it. Press Tab to cycle through them, or click a place to choose it.

Run it

Press Enter. NUU Command makes the task or the idea.

For a task, the bar shows Created and the title, with an Open link to the task in Operations. For an idea, it shows that the spark was caught in NUU Current, with an Open link. In NUU Current, the spark has the label "Caught in NUU Command".

How it decides

As you type, NUU Command ranks the places with a fast match in the browser. After a short pause, it asks a decision model for the action and the place. The model has a time limit of a second and a half. If it does not answer in time, NUU Command keeps the fast match. You never wait for it.

Quick create in Operations works in a similar way. See Create a Task in the Right Place.
