Invite Members and Set Roles
This guide shows you how to add people to a team organisation. It also shows you how to set roles and labels after they join.
Prerequisites
- You are signed in.
- You are an owner or an admin of a team organisation.
- You have the email address the person uses for their NUU account.
You cannot invite people into a personal organisation. Create a team organisation first. See Create an Organisation.
Invite a person
Open the team organisation. Start an invitation.
Enter the person's email. Choose a role of member or admin. You cannot invite someone as owner. Confirm the invitation.
The invitation stays pending until the person accepts it. If a pending invitation already exists for that email, the service rejects a second one. An admin can revoke a pending invitation.
The person must sign in with the same email. Then they see the invitation in their organisation list. They accept it. They become a member with the role you chose.
Invitations expire. If the person does not accept in time, send a new invitation.
Set a role
Open the members list. For a person who is not an owner, an admin can change the role to admin or member. An admin can also remove that person.
The product does not let you change an owner's role from this list. Ownership starts when someone creates the organisation.
An admin cannot grant owner. An admin cannot change an owner. If you try a change that you do not have permission for, the service rejects it.
A team must keep at least one owner. The service blocks a change that would leave the organisation with none.
Set a label
A label is a short note on a membership. It is not a role. It does not change what the person can do.
An admin can add, change, or clear a label. Use it for a title or a function, such as who leads a piece of work. Keep it short.
If the public roster is on, the public page shows the label next to the person's name. If there is no label, the page shows them as a member. See Public Pages.
What the person gets
After they accept, the organisation appears in their list. They see the members. If they are an admin, they can invite others, change roles of non-owners, set labels, and edit the public page. If they are a member, they belong to the organisation and they can see the members list.
Next Steps
- Turn on the public page when the team is ready to be seen. See Make Your Organisation Public.
- Read Core Ideas for the difference between role and label.
- Read Personal and Team Organisations if you need to know why personal organisations reject invitations.
