Core Ideas
NUU Organisations is a registry of groups. Every other idea in this product hangs on a small set of nouns. Learn these nouns first. Then the screens make sense.
Organisation
An organisation is a group with a name and an identity. There are two kinds.
A personal organisation belongs to one person. The service creates it for you. You cannot invite other people into it.
A team organisation is for shared work. You create it. You invite members. You can give it a public page.

Stable identity and slug
The stable identity is the permanent public identifier of an organisation. It never changes. Public pages use it. Other NUU products store it when they need to point at the organisation.
The slug is a short display name. You choose it when you create a team organisation. Use lowercase letters, numbers, and hyphens. The slug must be unique.

Membership
A membership is the link between a person and an organisation. You have a membership in your personal organisation. You have a membership in every team organisation that you join.
The membership holds your role and, on a team organisation, an optional label. It also holds the name, email, and picture that the organisation shows for you.
Role
A role is the permission that a membership carries. There are three roles.
- Owner. The person who creates the organisation starts as owner. An owner can do every member action.
- Admin. An admin can invite people, change roles of non-owners, set labels, and edit the public page.
- Member. A member belongs to the organisation. A member can see the members list.
You cannot invite someone as owner. Ownership starts at creation.

Label
A label is a short free-form tag on a membership. It is not a role. It does not change permissions. An admin uses a label to say what a person does, such as a job title. Personal organisations do not use labels.
Invitation
An invitation asks a person to join a team organisation. You send it by email. You choose the role of admin or member. The person must sign in with that same email. Then they can accept the invitation.
An invitation can be pending, accepted, expired, or revoked. An admin can revoke a pending invitation. You cannot invite someone into a personal organisation.
Public page
A public page is the organisation as the world sees it. It shows the name, tagline, description, location, website, dates, links, and picture. Only a team organisation can have a public page. The page is off until an admin turns it on.

Public roster
The public roster is the member list on the public page. A second switch controls it. If the roster is off, the page still shows how many members there are. It does not show who they are.
How the nouns relate
You sign in with your NUU account. The service gives you a personal organisation. You may create team organisations.
A team organisation has a stable identity and a slug. People join it through memberships. Each membership has a role. An admin may add a label.
New people arrive through invitations. When a person accepts, the invitation becomes a membership.
If an admin turns on the public page, the organisation appears on the browse screen. The public roster is a separate choice.
