Introduction
NUU Organisations is the group layer of NUU. It keeps a registry of organisations. It also keeps memberships, invitations, and public organisation pages.
You use this product when you work as a person and as part of a group. NUU Profiles holds people. NUU Organisations holds groups. Your NUU account signs you in to both.
Who it is for
This product is for people who have a NUU account. It is for people who need a group that other NUU products can recognise.
Use it if you:
- work alone and still need a personal organisation as your group identity
- run a team, a lab, or a collective
- want a public page for a group
- need to invite people and give them a role
The problem it solves
A person is not a group. A group needs its own identity. A group needs members. A group needs a way to stay private until it is ready to be seen.
Without a group layer, other NUU products cannot tell who belongs together. They cannot tell who may act for a team.
NUU Organisations solves that. It is the registry that other NUU products can trust.
What you get
You get two kinds of organisation.
A personal organisation is created for you when you first sign in. It belongs to you alone. You do not invite people into it. Its name and picture come from your NUU profile and your NUU account. See Personal and Team Organisations.
A team organisation is one you create for shared work. You choose a name and a short slug. You become the owner. You invite people by email. You set roles and labels. See Create an Organisation and Invite Members and Set Roles.
Every organisation has a stable identity. That identity never changes. Public pages and other NUU products use it. A team organisation also has a slug. You choose the slug when you create the organisation. See Identity and Slug.
A team organisation can have a public page. Two separate switches control that page. One switch makes the page public. The other switch shows or hides the public roster. See Public Pages and Make Your Organisation Public.
A browse screen lists every public organisation. You can search by name. See Browse Organisations.
Where it fits
NUU has a few products that work together.
- Your NUU account is how you sign in.
- NUU Profiles is how a person appears in public.
- NUU Organisations is how a group appears, and how membership works.
Keep your personal organisation in step with your profile. The personal organisation does not replace your profile. It points at the same person. See Keep Your Personal Organisation in Step.
If you want the mental model first, read Core Ideas. If you want to make a team, follow Create an Organisation.
