About Groups
A group is a personal list of public profiles. You own the list. You use it when you want to name several people as one set. The group does not change those people. It only collects them.
What a group is
Each group has a name and a stable identity. It belongs to your public profile. Only you manage the members of your groups.
A member is a public profile. The member can be a person with an account or a ghost. You add a member by searching for a display name, a handle, or a permanent identity.
A group is not an organisation. It is not a shared team space. Other members do not get a copy of the list. They do not manage it with you.
Why groups exist
Other NUU products often need to share with more than one person. If you pick each person every time, you repeat work. A group lets you pick the set once.
When another product uses the group at share time, it expands the list. Each member gets a share as a public profile. The group is a shortcut, not a new kind of identity.
You can make more than one group. Typical lists are family, a team, or a set of reviewers. The name is only for you.
Ownership
You must have a public profile before you can own a group. The group is attached to that public profile, not to your sign-in alone.
If you later claim a ghost, groups and memberships on any old public profile move to the claimed profile. The lists stay with you.
If you delete a group, the list goes away. Member profiles do not change. Those people still have the same public profiles as before.
What a group is not
A group is not attribution. Attribution names one person on a record. A group names a set of people for an action such as sharing.
A group is not a public profile. You cannot open a group as a person page. You open each member as a public profile.
A group is not visible as a directory of teams. Other people browse public profiles, not your lists. See Browse Profiles.
