Introduction
NUU Profiles is the identity authority of NUU. Every person has one public profile. Other NUU products use that public profile when they name you.
A public profile is the record that other people and other products should see. It has a permanent identity. It can have a handle, a display name, a bio, an avatar, and life dates. You can also put public profiles into groups. The handle comes from the username on your NUU account. You do not set the handle in NUU Profiles.
Who it is for
You use NUU Profiles if you use NUU products and you need a stable public identity. You also use it if you want to find other people in NUU and open their public profiles.
You do not use NUU Profiles to sign in. Sign-in lives on your NUU account. NUU Profiles reads your account and then shows your public profile.
The problem it solves
People show up in many NUU products. A name in one product can drift from a name in another. A username can change. A person can appear in a product before they have an account.
Without one public profile, attribution is weak. Other products cannot point at the same person in a stable way.
NUU Profiles solves this with one public profile per person. The permanent identity does not change. The handle can change. Other products store the permanent identity. They then show the current display name, handle, and avatar.
Where it fits
Your NUU account holds sign-in, email, and username. NUU Profiles holds the public record. Other NUU products read that record when they show who did work.
Some people have no account yet. Other products can still name them. Those people get a ghost. A ghost is a public profile with no account behind it. When the person arrives, they claim the ghost. An admin reviews the claim. After approval, the two identities merge.
You can also make groups of public profiles. A group is a personal list that you own. Other NUU products can use a group when you share with several people at once.
What you do here
After you sign in, the service sets up your account. You then create a public profile, or you claim a ghost. After that, you edit the public record. You can browse every public profile. You can open a public profile and see the same record that other products show.
