How to Share a Document

This guide shows how to give other people read access to a document you own. You can name a person, make the document public for signed-in NUU users, or create a public link that opens in NUU Surf.

Prerequisites

  • You are signed in.
  • You own the document. Only the owner can share.

Open sharing

Open the document, or pick it in your library. Open sharing.

You will choose one or more of the three modes below. They can exist at the same time. See About Sharing if you need the differences.

Share with a person

Enter the person's email. Add them.

They now have read access. Sharing also gives them access to the Surf output for this document.

If they have not signed in yet, the share stays pending until they do. When they sign in with that email, the document appears under Shared with them.

To stop access, remove that person from the share list.

You cannot share a document with your own email.

Make the document public inside NUU Docs

Turn on public access for signed-in NUU users.

Any signed-in NUU user can then find the document in the public list. They can open the source pane and the parsed pane. They still cannot change ownership, parse, or delete.

Turn public access off when you want the document to leave that list.

This mode is not the public link. The reader still needs a NUU account.

Turn on the public link. Copy the link. Send it to the people who should read the document in NUU Surf.

The visitor does not need a NUU account. The view is read only. It has no chat, notes, or highlights.

If you want a simple gate, set a password on the public link. The visitor enters the password once per browser session. You can change the password later. You can also remove the password and leave the link open.

Turn the public link off when you want the link to stop working.

What the other person gets

A named person, or a signed-in user on a public document, opens the document in NUU Docs. They read. They do not organise your library. They do not reparse.

A visitor with the public link opens NUU Surf. They read the parsed document there.

In your library, keep using Your documents for work you own. Use Shared with you for documents others sent to you.
