Watching Sessions in the Cockpit
This guide shows how to watch Orbh sessions. It covers the session list, the cockpit, and the one-session viewers.
Open the Session List
list opens the Sessions cockpit in a terminal. active opens the Active cockpit with subagents nested under their parents.
flint orbh list
flint orbh activeFor plain output without the cockpit, use --print or --json:
flint orbh list --print --wide
flint orbh active --print
flint orbh list --jsonInside an Orbh session, --json is the default. Pass --print when a script needs the table form.
Filter the list by work state, runtime, or text:
flint orbh list --status awaiting
flint orbh list --runtime codex --search docs
flint orbh list --detachedUseful extra flags: --wide prints the full-width table, --subagents flattens dispatch trees into top-level rows, -s adds token and turn stats, and -a includes hidden Special sessions. See Launching and Resuming Sessions to start the sessions that appear here.
Open the Full Cockpit
tui opens the full-screen tabbed cockpit. v opens the vertical split-pane cockpit.
flint orbh tui
flint orbh tui --view active
flint orbh v--view selects the initial view, such as sessions or active. --mode selects full or vertical. The cockpit holds more tabs for other features.
Read the Session Rows
The list groups sessions into sections such as Awaiting and Working. Awaiting rows show how long each session waits and what last woke it. Working rows show the run duration.
Each row starts with a status glyph:
| Glyph | Work state |
|---|---|
| ● (green) | working |
| ● (yellow) | needs-input |
| ◌ | awaiting |
| ○ | finished |
| ⊘ | abandoned |
| ? | unknown |
The activity column shows ● busy, ○ idle (sometimes with a duration), or - when the session has no live activity. See Sessions and Runs for the meaning of each work state.
The title starts with a mode prefix:
| Prefix | Mode |
|---|---|
| (I) | interactive |
| (H) | headless |
| (S) | subagent |
| (P) | ping |
A status tag follows the prefix, then the raw title. Tags include [Parked], [Closed], [Finished], [Error], and [Killed]. A typical row reads (S) [Finished] Docs F16 - Module - Sync.
A session that is mid-compaction shows [Compacting...] instead of the normal tag. The marker stays until the relaunched context declares itself ready. See Compaction for the full flow. Two sibling markers exist for short transitions: [Migrating...] and [Switching...].
Subagents nest under their parent as dispatch trees with └ markers. A (+n) count marks hidden tree rows. See Delegating to Subagents for how these trees form. A session that stays awaiting past 7 days shows a warning that suggests retiring it.
Move in the Cockpit
The main keys of the cockpit:
| Key | Action |
|---|---|
| 1–7 | switch cockpit tabs |
| ↑/↓ or j/k | move selection |
| g / G | jump to top / bottom |
| ←/→ or h/l | collapse / expand Active tree nodes |
| Space | toggle an Active tree node |
| Tab | move focus between cockpit panes |
| enter | open the selected session |
| a | open the session actions menu |
| Z | toggle preview zoom |
| / | incremental search in lists and transcripts |
| 1-5 / [ ] | switch or cycle detail scenes (inspect, prompt, transcript) |
| s | toggle sort: recent / status |
| S | cycle the work-state filter |
| R | cycle the runtime filter |
| d | show detached-interactive sessions only |
| x | show hidden Special sessions |
| esc | go back, or clear the search |
| ? | show or hide the keymap |
| q | quit |
Press ? inside the cockpit to see the full keymap, including mouse support.
Inspect One Session
inspect shows full detail for one session: state, launch profile, lineage, interface keys, context window, spool facts, runs, and the last turn. The id accepts a full or partial session id.
flint orbh inspect 073d8886
flint orbh inspect 073d8886 --results--results adds the run results to the output.
peek shows a compact status block instead: identity, work state, subagent counts, interface keys, activity, pending messages, and the result head. It reads projections only, so it stays cheap.
flint orbh peek 073d8886
flint orbh peek 073d8886 --jsonRead the Transcript
watch opens the session transcript fullscreen in a terminal.
flint orbh watch 073d8886
flint orbh watch 073d8886 --verbose
flint orbh watch 073d8886 --stream--verbose shows full thinking blocks and tool output. --stream forces streaming output instead of the fullscreen viewer.
Check Tokens and Context
stats shows turns, token usage, tool counts, and touched files for one session.
flint orbh stats 073d8886
flint orbh stats 073d8886 --files--files shows full file paths.
context shows the token context-window occupancy for one session. It self-targets inside a session, so the id is optional there.
flint orbh context 073d8886
flint orbh context --jsonReconstruct the History
timeline rebuilds a read-only chronological event list for a session tree.
flint orbh timeline 073d8886 --markdownInside an Orbh session the default output is JSON. --markdown forces the narrative form. Useful filters:
flint orbh timeline 073d8886 --since 2h --classes runs, messages
flint orbh timeline 073d8886 --depth 2 --full--since and --until accept ISO times or relative ages such as 2h or 3d. --depth limits the dispatch-tree depth. --classes selects event classes such as runs, messages, jobs, or notes. Long same-session spans collapse by default; --full disables the collapsing. With --room, the timeline covers all participants of a room instead of one tree. See Rooms and Messages for rooms.
